About this course

Every year, 145,000 Canadian workers are exposed to asbestos in their workplace and, tragically, over 2,000 are still being diagnosed with often fatal diseases, like mesothelioma and lung cancer. These startling figures have earned asbestos a reputation as the number one workplace killer. Even after banning the mining and export of asbestos in 2011, Canada continues to allow the importation of products containing asbestos.

Safety Guys Asbestos Worker 1 & 2 course will teach your employees to recognize potential asbestos containing materials (ACM) so they can protect themselves from accidental exposure. They will learn the procedures to safely remove small amounts of ACM as classified under Type 1 and 2 operations.

Note: this is not a course in asbestos remediation.

Included in the training are the legal requirements and obligations as specified under provincial regulations. Students will participate in a practical exercise to erect an enclosure and work with ventilation procedures.

Asbestos Worker 1 & 2 Training Objectives:
  • History of asbestos in building materials
  • Locations and types of asbestos materials in general
