Surface Mining Common Core

R.R.O. 1990, REGULATION 854  MINES AND MINING PLANTS

All production employees, working full and part-time, in a Surface Mining operation, must be trained in the Surface Miner Common Core and the specialty modules for machines they will operate. Surface Mining Operations fall under R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 854: MINES AND MINING PLANTS under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Section 11 requires that employers train new employees, and maintain training for all employees.

Course Length: 16 hours (2 days)

HOW TO BECOME FULLY ACCREDITED

To become fully accredited by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) under the Surface Miner Program:
  • Participants must return to their workplace and demonstrate their skills and understanding of the company's specific requirements to a qualified trainer*
  • Be signed off and registered with the MLITSD by their company's signing authority.
  • Note be considered a qualified company trainer, the employee must have successfully completed a Trainer of Adults course. Contact for details about signing up for our new online version.

Demonstration of knowledge includes government legislation, company standards, and manufacturer specifications.
